What I'm Taking: Gear List for the 2025 Mishigami Challenge

Pack with me!

The 2025 Mishigami Challenge starts at 6am on Saturday, July 12, from downtown Chicago. Follow the race with the live tracking! You can also keep up via Instagram by following both the Roving Cyclist and Mishigami Challenge accounts.

And, of course, the most detailed info about my race, prep, and reflections will always be right here, both before and after the race. Make sure you’re subscribed!

I have spent a lot of time going through this packing list, looking at what I’m willing to cut and what I won’t compromise on. As you saw yesterday, I’ve got less storage space this year (with only a half frame bag instead of a full frame bag) than I did last year. That means that I need to be efficient!

There’s a lot of detail to why I’ve chosen the items I have, as well as what lessons from prior editions of the Mishigami Challenge (as well as other bikepacking and randonneuring adventures) that have led me to this exact set of equipent. Watch the video for full details and to see how everything fits onto my bike, or check out the list below for a quick rundown.
